Community Art Project
July 3, 2020 @ 10:00 am - 7:00 pm
We will have a primed wood board measuring 4ft x 8ft in the front yard of the Nectar Centre at 255 MacKay St. People can drop by with 250-500mL (1-2 cups) of leftover house paint from their house. You can throw it at the board, pour it on, slowly drip it in a pattern or dump it all at once on the board. You can express yourself as you wish.
This is a project I (Maryse Fillion) came up with when wondering where I might fit in as an artist in these times. I have done this project once, in my driveway, and I am now repeating it with the Arts & Health Network Ottawa with the Nectar Centre. We have no sponsors and we ask for no money. If some people want to make a donation to cover costs of materials, to Arts and Health Ottawa or to the Nectar Centre in particular you can do so by sending an etransfer to [email protected]
GET A TICKET – FREE where you can sign-up for a 30 minute time slot on July 3rd (rain date of July 4th), between 10 am and 7 pm. You must arrive at your booked time. It won’t take long to drop paint on but we want to make sure there’s enough time in between people so no one arrives at the same time. (Having said this, being a few minutes late is OK but keep in mind someone else will be there at the hour and the half hour mark all day).
There will be a pink tent set-up with splash protection for the property if you desire to throw the paint. Make sure you are not wearing anything you don’t want to get paint on.
When you book your time slot we will ask you a question. Please respond with only a word or two. These words will be written on the board prior to the project starting. Some or all of them will be covered with the paint.
We will be present the whole time, taking pictures from a safe distance. Please let us know on the booking page if you don’t want your picture taken as we will be posting on Social Media.
Please take your empty paint containers back with you.
Please feel free to bring the loudest colour you have or one that seems to correspond best to how you feel that day.
So, what YOU need to do:
GET A TICKET, you will get a confirmation email once you’ve booked a time slot, with a phone number in case of the unforeseen.
Choose a time to drop your paint. Answer questions. This is not a PG project so feel free to express yourself.
Choose some leftover house paint (latex only, no oil based paints or stains) and put some in a container (like a yogourt container from recycling- please no glass)
Arrive at set time and choose your method of paint application. **Before you do this you may want to stand in front of the board, read the words that are visible, take a moment to reflect**
The board will be flat or at an angle. We can change it throughout the day. If you want us to change its position we will ask you to step back while we do this.
Throw/Pour/Drip paint on board. Scream, sing or do a little gig while you do it if you want.
Take your container with you (you might want to bring a bag or gloves, maybe a rag to wipe your hands before you leave) and continue on with your day.
If you have any questions please just respond to this email and if you can’t show up please cancel your appointment time so someone else can participate.
We thank you, we appreciate you and we wish you well.
Maryse Fillion, Suzanne Valois, Carmel Whittle and Solange Dean
