Good morning! What a great weekend we just had, the weather was perfect, we lost a lot of snow, and the temperature is rising so summer is on the way. Now that we’ve all adjusted to the clocks springing forward, we can start planning our week. Although St. Patrick’s Day isn’t until next week, there are a lot of parties around the city, particularly on Saturday which are typically referred to as “St. Practice Day” parties. Have a look at the calendar for some options.
It’s a very busy week in Ottawa for theatre, with a variety of options, so let’s start with that.
First, the latest Orpheus production of “Rock of Ages” is starting its second week. This incredible musical is on daily at Meridian Theatres @ Centrepointe, and is absolutely incredible! Get your tickets now before they sell out. Also at Meridian Theatres @ Centrepointe, “Halo” by 9th Hour Theatre Company starts on Tuesday and runs daily until Sunday. At the Gladstone this week, “Dancing at Laghnasa” kicks off Wednesday night for a two week run. At the GCTC, you will find “Daisy” also opening on Tuesday night and running through the rest of the month until the 29th. Finally, the long anticipated “CATS” returns to Ottawa at the National Arts Centre. This is one of my favourite Broadway shows, I’ve loved it since I was a kid.
Not really much going on for sports this week. The only thing to mention is that the Ottawa 67’s have two home games. Friday night, the Oshawa Generals are in town and Sunday afternoon, the Kingston Frontenacs are visiting for the St. Patrick’s Day themed game.
Concert Pick(s) of the Week!
The main headliner of the week is performing on Thursday night at the Bronson Centre. For King and Country have a stop here in Ottawa on their Burn The Ships World Tour.
Event Highlight of the Week!
The annual St. Patrick’s Day party at the Aberdeen Pavilion takes place on Saturday. This event, sponsored by Beau’s and organized by the Irish Society of the National Capital Region is the city’s biggest and best St. Patrick’s Day party! It is so much fun all day with family friendly events throughout the day, leading to a more adult-oriented atmosphere as the evening progresses. For only $35, this is your best option for the “season”. You can see my review of a previous year’s event by clicking here!
Where will I be?
As mentioned, it’s a busy theatre week, so I’ll be heading out to two shows this week. First, I’m going to “Daisy” at the Great Canadian Theatre Company, and then secondly, I’ll be attending “Dancing at Laghnasa” at the Gladstone. Other than that, I’m not too sure yet what’s in store for me.
