Covert Ottawa Weekly Newsletter: Ottawa Events March 2nd – 8th

Happy March! Spring has officially started, and with that, we get to celebrate by losing an hour of sleep on Saturday night! Hooray!!! Don’t forget to change your clocks. But at least with that, we’ve got more sunlight in the evenings! This week also brings International Women’s Day on Sunday! There are several events to celebrate this day, including the International Women’s Day Comedy Show, pinball tournament, and market.

This week has a wide variety of events each day, so make sure to have a look at what is going on!

Sports:

The trade deadline is over, and the Sens made some moves, as expected! We got some great picks for Pageau, so let’s hope the rebuild continues well. “Maybe next year” can be said again of the Sens. There is one home game this week, and it takes place on Thursday night at 7:30 against the New York Islanders.

Theatre:

At the Gladstone this week, Bare: A Pop Opera continues for the second of its two week run, ending March 7th. At Meridian Theatres @ Centrepointe, the latest Orpheus production, “Rock of Ages” kicks off Friday night, running just over a week, and ending on March 15th. Taking place at Studio of Leonard Beaulne at the University of Ottawa, Sock ‘n Buskin Theatre presents “Eurydice” from Thursday to Sunday.

Festivals:

The Ottawa Winter Brewfest is on this weekend at the Aberdeen Pavilion!! There are three different sessions for this epic beer festival; you can choose to attend Friday night, Saturday afternoon, or Saturday evening. This is always an amazing time, so if you’re a lover of craft beer, delicious food, or fun activities and entertainment, don’t miss this annual event.

Concert Pick(s) of the Week!

The concert highlight of this week is the Lumineers, at the Canadian Tire Centre on Saturday night. They are touring to promote an upcoming new album called III coming out in September. Tickets are still available at the box office, or check for other options through Stubhub by clicking here! Also this week, on Friday AND Saturday nights, Disco Inferno will be playing live at Overflow Brewing Company! This is one of the most fun Ottawa bands that I’ve seen perform, and this popular venue is sure to sell out, so get your tickets now while you can.

Another show worth pointing out this week is Letterkenny live at the Algonquin Commons Theatre on Monday night, brought to you by Live Nation.

Event Highlight of the Week!

One of my favourite movies is The Big Lebowski. It is an absolute classic in my eyes, and I must be pretty close to having the whole movie memorized, given the number of times that I’ve seen it. I’ve even hosted multiple “Big Lebowski” nights with friends! So I was very excited to hear about the Big Lebowski viewing party at Orange Art Gallery on Friday night! There will be a great viewing area to watch the movie, and white Russian drink specials all night. What a fun social event concept to watch one of the greatest movies ever made!

Where will I be?

This weekend, I’m heading out to see Orpheus’ Rock of Ages at Meridian Theatres, and I am really looking forward to that! I’d also like to get out to the Lebowski Movie night!
