Covert Ottawa Weekly Newsletter: Ottawa Events January 13th – 19th

Good morning! I hope everyone had a great first week back to work. The short days of January are pretty much half over now, so we can look forward to more daylight, which typically means better weather, and that summer is just a little bit closer again…am I getting ahead of myself? This week picks up a little after last week’s limited events selection, with a lot of fun things going on around town!

This week in theatre, Will Somers: Last Will and Testament is continuing for its second week at The Gladstone Theatre. At Ottawa Little Theatre, The Roommate continues with its second week of a three week run.

It’s a big week in Ottawa for hockey, with lots of games to choose from! The Ottawa Senators have three home games this week: Tuesday, the Chicago Blackhawks are in town, Thursday, the Vegas Golden Knights are here, and then Saturday afternoon at 4pm, the Calgary Flames are visiting. Sounds like a 1-2 record to me….what can I say, I’m a realist. The Ottawa 67’s are also busy at home this week. Friday night the Flint Firebirds are visiting at TD Place, and Saturday afternoon, you can catch the Hamilton Bulldogs at 2pm.

Concert Pick(s) of the Week!

Calling all Abba fans! Check out AbbaMania and Night Fever (Bee Gees); they’re playing three shows this week. Friday night they will be performing at Meridian Theatres @ Centrepointe, and then Saturday night, and Sunday afternoon, you can catch them at Shenkman Arts Centre. Saturday night, at Irene’s, check out Alanna Stirling and the Silvers with the Justin Alexander Trio. It’s a small venue, and certain to sell out!

Event Highlight of the Week!

On Thursday night, North of 7 Distillery and the Urban Barrel Company are joining forces to bring you an amazing scotch experience. This Cocktail Masterclass includes a tour of North of 7, followed by learning how to build four barrel aged cocktails with Urban Barrel. All the details are available on their site! Make sure to say “hi” to Jeff from Urban Barrel, and let him know that Covert Ottawa Guy sent you!

Where will I be?

I only have a couple of things planned so far this week. The final, regular eSAX networking event is taking place on Wednesday night. This will be the last one for a while, as the organizer/networking genius is reworking the current format of this event. Don’t miss your chance to attend! eSAX offers an amazing opportunity for the owners of businesses of all sizes to get out and mingle with like-minded entrepreneurs. It takes place at the Horticulture building in the TD Place complex. Make sure to try a “Sax on the Beach” drink while you’re there! Friday night, I’ll be heading over to Carleton University to meet Tessa Virtue! This event is unfortunately not open to the public, but if you are a Carleton student, employee, or alumni, you are more than welcome. Saturday, I’m going to finally see the new Star Wars movie. I’m so late, that I’m embarrassed to even call myself a fan. I’ll just go see it three times in a row to make up for my tardiness.
