Covert Ottawa Weekly Newsletter: Ottawa Events November 18th – 24th

Here we are at the start of a new week. The early winter may go on hold for just a little bit, and hopefully we’ll get some melting done this week. I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty tired of winter and am ready for it to be over. 😊

Events Listing:

This week boasts a great mix of events throughout the city. We’ve got some great theatre, some hockey, a ton of concerts and so many Christmas markets!!

First, let’s talk theatre. The long awaited Orpheus production of Matilda, The Musical by Roald Dahl starts this week. This latest production is expected to be incredible with a huge cast of some of the best local performers in the Ottawa area. It runs from Friday until Sunday December 1st at Meridian Theatres @ Centrepointe. Also starting this week is the Pheonix Players presentation of Wrong for Each Other that runs from November 22nd until November 30th at The Gladstone Theatre!

It’s a big week for those with an entrepreneurial spirit! Monday night, you can head over to Awesome-preneurs which is being held at St. Elias hall and features a guest presenter, Sylvain Rochon. Thursday night, the latest presentation of FuckUp Nights takes place at the University of Ottawa. This unique event is put on by Rebel.com and features some great failure tales from entrepreneurs. It’s a great event for anyone with the entrepreneurial spirt who wants to learn how to cope with failed endeavors. Also on Thursday night, the monthly Entrepreneurs in Action is taking place at Collab Space. This event is a fantastic opportunity to network with like-minded business people!

Not a lot of sports this week in town. The Ottawa Senators have a home game on Thursday night against the New York Rangers. This is not just a normal game. Ottawa Special Events is promoting this game as it’s a fundraiser to raise money to help fight cancer. Details on tickets are on the site! The Ottawa 67’s have a home game this week against the visiting Mississauga Steelheads on Friday afternoon.

There are a lot of choices for concerts and live entertainment this week in Ottawa! On Wednesday night, Sasha Valour takes over the stage of the Algonquin Commons Theatre. Thursday night, Harmony Concerts presents Mike Biggar with Manitoba Hall at Beechwood Cemetery. On Friday night, the Rheostatics are playing at the NAC, Hollorado is at the Bronson Centre, and Tara Holloway is at Shanghai. If you’re in to tribute bands, The Blushing Bridges Rolling Stones tribute is on Friday night at The Brass Monkey, and Our Name is Jonas, the Weezer Tribute is playing at Overflow Brewery. On Saturday, SOS, the ABBA Experience is playing at Greenfields. Also on Saturday, all afternoon and night, North of Nashville is taking place on York Street at many different stages. You can see the whole schedule on my site! On Sunday, Lil TJay, no escape tour can be seen at the Bronson Centre, and Rich the Kid is performing at the Algonquin Commons Theatre.

 Where will I be?

I haven’t fully planned out my week just yet, but for sure, I’ll be at Meridian Theatres @ Centrepointe on Saturday night to see Matilda, the latest Orpheus play. I’m so excited about this based on the cast that I’ve seen so far. Some of my favourites from past plays are showcased here! And, on Thursday night, I have a swanky wine and cheese to attend courtesy of the U Ottawa Communications Department that I’m looking forward to! I haven’t included this in the events calendar, as I don’t believe it’s open to the public unfortunately.
