Covert Ottawa Weekly Newsletter: Ottawa Events October 14th – 20th

Happy Thanksgiving! I hope everyone is taking some time off on Monday to relax and reflect on what it is we’re thankful for. This thanksgiving, each and every one of us should just think about the things that make our lives better, and take the time to appreciate just what that is, whether it be a person in our lives, a pet, a successful business venture, or anything that makes you a more positive person. My wife and I make it a point each night to tell each other what we’re thankful/grateful for and close off our day on a happy and positive note. So, if that seems excessive to you, why not just start with thanksgiving weekend and express your thoughts to a loved one before the day ends.

Now on to the events! It’s a big week for hockey in Ottawa. The Ottawa Senators are looking to build off their first win of the season on Saturday night against the Tampa Bay Lightening. This Monday, they have an afternoon game against the Minnesota Wild. If junior hockey is more your thing, the Ottawa 67’s have three home games this week. First, they play Monday afternoon against the Kingston Frontenacs, then Friday night against the Peterborough Petes, and finally Sunday against the visiting Hamilton Bulldogs.

There are some great and……ummm…..interesting live shows this week here in Ottawa. The concert highlight is a two-show spectacle by Celine Dion at the Canadian Tire Centre on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. On a more local level, Ambush is playing Friday and Saturday nights at the Rideau Carleton Raceway. For some other live entertainment, Red Green is live at the Algonquin Commons Theatre on Wednesday night, and Jake “The Snake” Roberts is visiting Yuk Yuks on Sunday. I feel so old when I say this, but I was a huge fan back in his hay-day. I even had his Hostess mini-chip card…remember those??

At the Gladstone this week, Boys in the Band continues for its final week so make sure to get out and see it before it’s too late!! Seasonally, Pumpkinferno continues at Upper Canada Village, and Saunders Farm is open for nightly hauntings for all levels of fright fans. Just a note that this Saturday, in Kanata is the annual October West Craft Beer Fest so to take in what is likely the final beer festival of the season, you’ll have to make your way to Calabogie Brewing Company in Kanata.
