Covert Ottawa Weekly Update: Ottawa Events September 30th – October 6th

What a nice weekend to celebrate the end of September. The month of spook-ies and ghouls is upon us, as Halloween events can be found throughout the area. Pumpkinferno at Upper Canada Village has started up, and daily hauntings at Saunders Farm have also kicked off.

This coming week is another busy one with a huge variety of events throughout the whole city. The end of festival season has arrived with the final small-town fair of the year. The Metcalfe Fair runs from Thursday through Sunday with yet another exciting line up of all kinds of activities for everyone!! Also, the long awaited Super Cheese Festival is taking place Friday through Sunday. This festival is a combination of the Grilled Cheese Fest, and Mac My Cheese Fest so you can’t go wrong with this one!!

The sports world in Ottawa has a great week in store. The Ottawa Fury FC play host to the Indy Eleven on Wednesday at TD Place. The Panda Match is on at TD Place Saturday afternoon. This annual rivalry pairs up the University of Ottawa Gee Gees, and the Carleton University Ravens for a showdown of the capital university’s football teams. Also Saturday, the Ottawa Senators kick off their (hopefully) rebound year with their home opener against the NY Rangers.

For theatre, you can catch “The Ugly One” continuing this week at the Gladstone Theatre and the Ottawa Little Theatre is finishing off its run of “The Ladies Foursome” with its last show on October 5th.

There are tons of specialty trade shows this week. Something for everyone in my humble opinion. Collectors rejoice, you’ve got a big day ahead. On Sunday,  the Ottawa Nostalgia Fall Show takes place at the Nepean Sportsplex, the monthly sports card and comic show is on at the Jim Durrell Centre, and the New Geek and Gaming Sale takes place at Orleans Bowling and Strikers Billiards. Other shows on this week include the Ottawa Psychic Fair from Friday to Sunday at the Best Western in Bell’s Corners, the Yoga and Wellness Show Saturday and Sunday at the EY Centre, and the World Explorer Travel Show on Sunday at the Ottawa Conference and Event Centre.

I can’t finish off this post without some concerts!! On Saturday, the NAC is holding their Golden 50 gala featuring Sarah McLachlan and the NAC Orchestra. Also Saturday, Of Mice and Men will be making a stop at the Brass Monkey, and Friday night, the Algonquin Commons Theatre plays host to Lil Mosey. For the kids, The Wiggles make their return to Ottawa on Thursday with three shows at Meridian Theatres @Centrepointe.

Where will I be?

Wednesday morning, I’ve been invited to take part in the morning show of CKCU 93.1 FM. I should be on air at about 8:30 if you want to know a little more about Covert Ottawa Guy. On Saturday, I’ll head out to the Metcalfe fair again this year. I love that little fair!! Then on Sunday, I’ll be at the sports card and comic show at the Jim Durrell Centre.
