Covert Ottawa Weekly Update: Ottawa Events July 15th – 21st

Summer is rolling on and the heat is continuing, Ottawa is such a great place to be. At Bluesfest this year, I was talking to band management and they commented that Canada, and Ottawa specifically is such a great city to live in as we have “proper seasons” here. I’m not sure if I agree with the enthusiasm for a “proper winter” but it’s a good point. Ottawa IS a great place to live! Bluesfest is now over, and it went out with a HUGE crowd to see the Backstreet Boys last night. Judging solely on the number of people, and no actual metrics or ticket sales information, it must have been the busiest night of the festival; it was just packed! What a great way to wrap up the 25th anniversary.

Even though Blues is over, festival season keeps rocking this week, but a little change of pace. The Music and Beyond festival continues until the 18th with some great performances still lined up. It’s not too late to take in this fun and creative festival. The highly anticipated Lebanese Festival kicks off this week on Wednesday and runs until Sunday at St. Elias Cathedral across from Mooney’s Bay. Also this week, the Capital Ukrainian Festival starts on Friday and runs through Sunday at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Shrine. Another fabulous festival this week is for one day only on Saturday. The Canadian Agriculture and Food Museum plays host to the annual Ice Cream Festival. Also on Saturday, the 2019 Ottawa Kombucha Festival will be at the Horticulture Building. On the music scene, the Soul City Music Fest runs for one day at Laroche park on Saturday.

The Redblacks have no home game this week, but the Ottawa Champions play the Rockland Boulders Monday to Wednesday nights, and the Ottawa Fury take on the Swope Park Rangers on Saturday.

This weekend, I’m happy to announce that Capital Pop-Up Cinema has two different shows! On Friday night, you can catch BIG on Sparks Street, and Saturday, Napoleon Dynamite is playing outdoors at Parkdale Park.

There are two major concerts hitting Ottawa this week both on Friday night. Def Leppard is playing at the Canadian Tire Centre, and ALABAMA is at TD Place.

 Where will I be?

After two weeks of Bluesfest, I’m taking some time off for a bit. I’m sure I’ll still end up out and about, but I have nothing specific planned for now. I think it’s time to take in some patio weather and sun. ?
