What to do for Canada Day in Ottawa!

Happy almost Canada Day!!! I’ve put together a list of all the events going on in Ottawa for our nation’s birthday! I’ve included what I can find for both the major community events as well as some of the smaller parties throughout this city. If you are hosting a party and would like it included, please let me know and I’ll include it; this will be an ever changing post as I add more of the smaller celebrations! I’ve included the downtown area first, and then it’s sorted alphabetically by region of the city (Central, East, South, West)

Occasional Pudding kicks the party off from 11-3 with pub favourites The Young Bucks hitting the stage from 4-8 and finally we’re super excited to have Three Finger Shot with very special guest Anna Ludlow rocking the pub from 9pm-close! $5 Cover with Proceeds to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation of Ottawa. It’s the best party anywhere and a fireworks show too!


Major’s Hill Park

June 30th – There’s a full fun filled day for the whole family on Sunday June 30th at Major’s Hill Park. The day’s events kick off at 11am and run all day until 11pm at this location. July 1st – Another full day at Major’s Hill Park for Canada Day! Events start at 9am and run all day until 11pm when the fireworks finish up. This is a great location to catch the iconic fireworks behind parliament hill. You can see the full schedule of events by clicking this link and filtering by day and location. If you’re into concerts, I recommend Tokyo Police Club who are playing at 8:30 leading up to the fireworks display.

Parliament Hill

Parliament Hill is the most iconic location to celebrate Canada Day. Thousands of people will flock to the downtown area to catch the fireworks, but there are so many more fantastic events happening at the hill throughout the day.

The Canada Day “Noon Show” from 12:00 – 1:45pm at the Hill includes the NAC Orchestra, K’naan, Karim Ouellet, T. Thomason, Shawnee, and Ballet Jazz Montreal. The hosts are Ashley Callingbull and Herby Moreau. The Honourable Pablo Rodriguez, minister of Canadian Heritage and Mulculturalism, invites you to join thousands of Canadians on Parliament Hill to celebrate Canada’s 152nd birthday. Experience the thrill of Canada’s Snowbirds and CF-18s and cheer on the performers. Join the party on Parliament Hill and celebrate Canada’s birthday!

The Canada Day “Evening Show” from 6:45 – 10:00pm includes Kaytranda, The Strumbellas, Marie Mai, Brett Kissel, Coeur de Pirate, Karim Ouellet, William Prince, Crystal Shawanda, and K’naan

Fireworks Display – One of the most brilliant fireworks demonstrations in Canada each year, the fireworks at parliament hill, that can be seen from almost anywhere in the downtown area will start at roughly 10:00pm.

Celebrate Canada Day with a picnic and lawn games at Park Hill, the former name for Billings Estate. Enjoy the company of friends and family on our beautiful grounds. Enjoy some old-fashioned fun and games on the lawn and explore the story behind this National Historic Site inside the museum. Leave the prep work in our hands by reserving a yummy picnic lunch for your group or pack your own. Don’t forget to bring a picnic blanket so you can truly sit back and appreciate the relaxed Canada Day fun.


Canadian Agriculture and Food Museum

It’s time to celebrate! The Canada Agriculture and Food Museum is highlighting Canada’s birthday with lots of exciting activities for the whole family. Our special demonstrations will offer visitors the chance to learn about Canadian agriculture and different Canadian breeds of livestock. There will be games, a craft, ice cream making and tasting, as well a chance to sample a Canadian classic: butter tarts!


Ice Cream Making (10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 2:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m.)

The young and young-at-heart can help make ice cream using an old-fashioned hand-crank freezer. The best part? Everyone who helps can taste the end result!

The Great Canadian Quiz (ongoing activity – closed from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.) – Visitors can spin the wheel and test their knowledge of Canadian trivia.

Kids’ Craft Station – Kids are invited to make a Canada Day-themed craft to take home.

Butter Tarts (ongoing activity – closed from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.) – Visitors are invited to the demonstration kitchen to sample this delicious treat. Learn about where the ingredients come from and interesting facts about the origins of this Canadian classic.

Historical Site Tour with Tea Time (12:30 p.m.) – Join us as we take a walk down memory lane and discover interesting historical facts about our beloved museum and its surrounding heritage buildings. The tour will end with a sample of tea, just like it was served all those years ago at the Experimental Farm’s annual garden parties.

Face Painting ($) – The Painted Pixie will be on site to work her magic!

Food Services ($) – The Hot Potato Company will be on site to offer food services.


Ottawa East:


Blackburn Hamlet Canada Day Celebration

Canadian Aviation and Space Museum

Take family fun to new heights this Canada Day! The Canada Aviation and Space Museum has a jam-packed schedule of thrilling performances, including skydiving demos and micro drone flying. Just minutes from the crowds of downtown Ottawa, the museum is an ideal destination for those seeking a family-friendly day filled with entertaining, educational and interactive activities to do regardless of the weather. Stroll through our world-class aviation collection, speak with pilots, and visit more than 20 partner organizations from the aerospace industry! Canada day at the museum is presented by NAV CANADA. Admission is free (donations are welcome).

Family Activities – Activities for kids of all ages are taking place throughout the day!

Aircraft and Flights – Many visiting aircraft will be flying in for Museum visitors. Come and speak to the pilots of these wonderful flying machines!

More information – The Canada Aviation and Space Museum is located at the intersection of the Aviation and Rockcliffe Parkways, just 10 minutes from Parliament Hill. The museum will be open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Canada Day, with special activities ending by 4 p.m. Admission is free, however parking fees still apply.

Visitors are invited to take advantage of the bicycle paths leading to the museum to reduce vehicle emissions; bicycle racks are available at the museum.

With Canada’s birthday as our backdrop, Kiwanis International’s Orleans branch is hosting a family-oriented event that gives kids of all ages the opportunity to play, smile and celebrate as all kids should. All are welcome at Pineview’s family-friendly Canada Day Party on July 1st, a FREE, accessible and fun event for all ages! Our activity stations will showcase local Gloucester history and local community organizations. Planned free activities include crafts, face painting, sporting demonstrations, human board games, and a toddler play area.

We will have LIVE music and a visit from a princess and superhero NEW this year – Artists Alley. Come check out a variety of local artist, artisans, and crafters!

In addition to the parade, there will be plenty of activities for all ages at Riverside Park. Beginning with breakfast at the Kemptville Legion, the day will include face painting, organized games, live music all day, swimming at the Kemptville Pool, sports clinics, dance and fitness demonstrations, the annual Keller Williams Charity Volleyball Tournament, a dog agility show, a street curling rink, the Southgate Church inflatable, Big Sky Ranch, food and market vendors, the Save-Way Driving School Teen Zone Gravel Jam, and the grand finale fireworks show at dusk (around 10pm).

Join us while the Riverside South Community Association once again celebrates in style!  Come out to Claudette Cain Park (beside Bridge) from 10am-2pm for inflatables, BBQ, petting zoo, pony rides, face painting, cotton candy, and so much more!

Children age 2-12 require a fun pass to access the rides.  Pre-purchase for $12 each or $15 at the event.  Fun pass gives you access to all activities except pony rides (BBQ and ice cream is extra)

Canada Day Barrhaven Inc. is very excited for this year’s edition of Mattamy Homes Canada Day in Barrhaven.  We are a partnership of local Community Associations, Business members, City of Ottawa Councillors, Service Groups, Churches and Youth Groups that are dedicated and committed to bringing the best Canada Day in Barrhaven celebration to our community at Clark Fields.

Our event could not take place without the support of our title sponsor Mattamy Homes, grants from Heritage Canada and the City of Ottawa, our Major sponsors Majic 100, Homeniuk Rides, Ottawa Special Events and the Barrhaven Business Improvement area, donations from various business and of course our 100+ volunteers that come out each and every year.

Our Kidz Zone has a free Activity Area and a Gym area with interactive games for children of all ages and a Kidz Zone Stage with many young child friendly acts.  Our four day midway held from June 28 to July 1 has lots of games, food and amusement.

An essential portion of our activities incorporates multi-cultural expression in song and dance, language and dress, bringing together the various ethnic and religious persuasions represented in our diverse community on our Multi-Cultural Stage.  As our community becomes so much more diverse culturally we want to bring in even more multi-cultural activities, to partner with this we will be offering cuisines from the many different cultures.

On our Main Stage, before our main acts perform, we will have a parade of Territorial, Provincial and Canadian Flags carried by people from different cultures, the singing of our National Anthem, official remarks from Federal, Provincial and municipal elected officials.  Our master of ceremony duties will be performed in both official languages and where feasible promotion and advertising will incorporate both official languages.  The day ends with spectacular fireworks choreographed to music which always amazes people of all ages.

The Light Up Dunrobin Canada Day event is a celebration to bring our community together. We will enjoy an afternoon of amazing music, delicious food and beautiful friends. The event will be capped off with an awe-inspiring fireworks display.

The afternoon will feature performances by Juno nominee, Kira Isabella, The Corey James Mitchell Band, River City Junction, Kelly Prescott, and The Retrogrades.

Our event will be MC’d by Jon “Gonzo” Mark of BOOM 99.7 FM.

We will also have a special guest appearance by our own West Carleton Warriors Hockey team – winners of the 2019 Chevrolet Good Deeds Cup.

Canada Day in Kanata is Kanata’s premier Canada Day event and one of the largest community events in the Ottawa region. We believe that everyone should celebrate this great nation, which is why we have programming for all ages! Live bands, family fun zones and of course, a beautiful display of fireworks! Come join us at Walter Baker Park off Terry Fox Drive in Kanata to celebrate Canada Day in Kanata.



Trend Arlington

this year’s community celebration of our great country will be our biggest one yet, thanks to funding from TD Park Place, the Red Cross, and also thanks to the community’s donations post-tornado to help increase community spirit through events like this!

There will be a FREE community BBQ, a special dance party, live music, and of course FIREWORKS!!!
