Happy summer everyone!!! What a great weekend that we just had! Finally some nice summer-like weather, and a whole lot of festivals to go along with it. This coming week is a little quieter than the last two, but that’s normal and expected since it’s Canada Day weekend with all the festivities hitting next Monday.
Let’s once again start with the festivals. It may be a little quieter, but there’s still lots going on. TD Ottawa Jazz Festival continues this week with shows right up until Canada Day. The headliners this week include Norah Jones on Tuesday night and The Roots on Saturday night. For you movie buffs, the Greek Film Festival is running Tuesday to Friday with a variety of great feature films. It takes place at the beautiful Ottawa Art Gallery, and the full schedule is available on the website.
Sports highlights include the return of the Ottawa Fury on Wednesday night at TD Place. They take on the Charleston Battery with a 7pm start. The Ottawa Champions have a three-game series starting Tuesday against the visiting New Jersey Jackals.
For theatre this week, the continuation of the multi-award winning, and truly hilarious Avenue Q can be seen at the Gladstone Theatre until June 29th. At Meridian Theatres @ Centrepointe, you can catch You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown with four shows only from June 28-30th.
Another event worth pointing out is the Canada Day long weekend Soca Boat! This party on a boat looks like so much fun!! If you’ve never been on one of these ‘booze cruises’, this is a great one to start with!
Where will I be?
Well….this is an interesting week for me! I have nothing specific planned to start the week, but Friday is a very special day for me! It’s my bachelor party!! After going to all kinds of events throughout the city, it was very difficult for me to choose what to do with so many great options. So, with a lot of work from my best man, I’ve managed to gather together 15 of my closest friends and we’re heading out on our private Brew Donkey Tour including axe throwing at BATL Axe. That tour will end around 7:30, and we’ll be dropped off at Nature Nocturne for a night of debauchery (responsible debauchery of course) in the VIP room.
As I’m sure you know, Canada Day is very quickly approaching, so I’ve put together a full list of everything going on in Ottawa that you can do to celebrate our great Nation’s birthday! This list will be updated with new information whenever I find it, so feel free to check back often. It includes community events, fireworks, and parties. You can see it by clicking here!
Last week, was the Fringe Festival. One of the plays, God is a Scottish Drag Queen, seemed particularly interesting. You can read the review on this play here!
Avenue Q, as mentioned is on this week at the Gladstone Theatre. This is by far one of the funniest and most all-round entertaining plays I’ve seen!! You can read the review by clicking here! Make sure to get your tickets though, they will sell out, it’s really, really funny.
