Covert Ottawa Weekly Update: Ottawa Events June 17th – 23rd

Good Monday morning! We’re entering another week in the heart of festival season here in Ottawa. Last week had four major festivals at the same time, and this week just steps that up. We’ve also got some sports in the city, and some great theatre!

Let’s start this post with the festival highlights. The Ottawa Fringe Festival continues this week with so many great shows!! The Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival kicks off on Thursday and runs all weekend at Mooney’s Bay. Even if you’re not taking part in the sport of the festival, there is a great concert line up this year again! You can see Half Moon Run, Alan Doyle and USS, among others. Also on the music scene, the TD Ottawa Jazz Festival starts on Friday and ends July 1st. There is a ton of great acts to see at this year’s iteration of the festival so check out their website and plan ahead!! Even more music….Escapade is on this weekend with so many DJs to look forward to such as Martin Garrix, DJ Snake, Zedds Dead and Ferry Corsten. Again, check their website for a full listing. Next up is the Summer Solstice Indigenous Festival on all weekend at Vincent Massey Park. Finally, Sparks Street plays host to Ottawa Ribfest from June 19th to 23rd.

On the theatre side, outside of the Fringe Festival, I’m happy to announce that the multi-award winning, and truly hilarious Avenue Q kicks off at the Gladstone on Thursday until June 29th.

The Ottawa Champions play a three-game series Friday – Sunday against the Quebec Capitales and the Ottawa Redblacks have a home game vs. the Saskatchewan Rough Riders on Thursday night.

 Where will I be?

This week, I’ve got a few things going on. I’m heading out to Avenue Q at The Gladstone Theatre, I’ll be catching God is a Scottish Drag Queen at Arts Court as part of the Fringe Festival, and I will be attending a couple nights of the Dragon Boat Festival for some of the great concerts!

There’s a great Art Show on this weekend where two famous Canadian artists are teaming up for a great exhibit and sale! Robbie Craig and Adam Young can be found both Saturday and Sunday from 10-6 at the Holiday Inn Ottawa East on Joseph Cyr Street in Gloucester. For details click this link.
