Covert Ottawa Weekly Update: Ottawa Events June 10th – 17th

Festival Season is in full swing, and there’s no better week than this week to show that off! Despite the recent announcement that festival funding is being cut by the government, there are still so many to attend. Let’s all get out and help support the many Ottawa Festivals by buying tickets, having some drinks and supporting this great city!

On that note, I’ll highlight this week’s festivals. The Ottawa Fringe Festival starts on June 13th and runs until the 23rd with 54 different shows at nine venues. All the details are found on their website, or in the “announcements” section below. This Friday and Saturday, you can find GlowFair on the streets of Bank Street in the downtown core. There are so many fun events with Glowfair including some great concerts, and yoga experiences. Make sure to check it out!! Ottawa Italian Week continues with fun events throughout the week in the Preston/Little Italy area. Make sure not to miss the Ferrari parade!! Carivibe has an event this week too…take in their block party on Saturday. Finally, you can Find the Festival Franco Ontarien at Major’s Hill Park from Thursday to Saturday.

Aside from the festivals, there are some great concerts in Ottawa this week too!! We’ll start with Monday night where the Canadian Tire Centre plays host to Carrie Underwood for her “The Cry Pretty Tour 360”. Also Monday, you can see Death From Above with their “Heads Up! Is Now” Tour at the Algonquin Commons Theatre. Then on Wednesday night, you can head back to the Canadian Tire Centre for Corey Hart’s “Never Surrender” Tour. On Thursday night, all you ABBA fans can head out to Shenkman Theatre to take in “The ABBA Show”. Friday night, Ottawa favourite, Ambush will be playing at the Barley Mow in Westboro and you can find GOOD2GO on Saturday at the Atomic Rooster.

 Where will I be?

After a really busy weekend, I’m taking a few days off and just doing some personal stuff like softball and sleeping. ? Then this weekend, I’m back at it. I’m going to see exDEMONators, a play that’s part of the Fringe Festival on Friday. Then Saturday, I’m going to check out Glowfair at night and see some of the concerts/DJs. I go every year, and it’s so fun!!

Announcements:

Capital Pop-Up Cinema announced their whole schedule a couple weeks ago, and their first two movie showings of the year are this week!! On Friday night, you can find them set up on Sparks Street with a viewing of ‘Mean Girls’ and Saturday, they’re at the Parkdale Park showing ‘The Sandlot’. Movies start at dusk and you can get popcorn and rent some big comfy chairs from the. It’s such a fun experience….go check it out!!

The Byward Market got a little more interesting last week with the grand opening of the William Street Pedestrian Plaza. You can read the full announcement by clicking here. They closed off the stretch of William Street and filled it with games, and comfortable seating for anyone wandering around the market who want a break. They also have an open and fully operational LIGHT RAIL system in place!!

The Ottawa Fringe Festival launched the complete online listing of 2019 shows! Running June 13-23, the Festival will celebrate another year of wonderful and weird indie theatre. With 343 performances of 54 shows in 9 venues – including Arts Court, the University of Ottawa,and even a church! – you’ll definitely want to be there.
