Covert Ottawa Weekly Update: Ottawa Events May 13th – 19th

I hope everyone had a great weekend, and you took advantage of the nice weather to get out and enjoy the many entertaining events throughout the city. This coming week is somewhat of a breather for Ottawa but there’s still lots going on.

First, on the theatre side, you can catch week #2 of Lysistrata at the Gladstone Theatre produced by Theatre Kraken. I saw this last week, and it was so funny!!! There’s a link to my review below. Next up on the theatre side is a production of Nunsense that starts this week at Kanata Theatre.

The sports seasons have fully changed now, they Ottawa 67’s finally met their match on Sunday and were eliminated in the OHL final to the Guelph Storm. However, the boys of summer are back in town starting Thursday! The Ottawa Champions open their season with a three game home-stand vs the New Jersey Jackals. A quick shout out to the Toronto Raptors for an incredible game 7…..particularly the winning buzzer beater where thousands of people held their breath simultaneously as the ball took thirty-five minutes to bounce into the net. On to the eastern conference finals.

Tulip Festival started last weekend and as usual there are dozens of events planned for this historic Ottawa festival so get out and enjoy it while you can.

A popular concert worth mentioning is Gucci Mane on Friday night at TD Place. Friday and Saturday, you can catch Disney in Concert at Meridian Theatres @ Centrepointe. It’s produced and performed by the Ottawa POPS Orchestra. Finally, I want to highlight an event called “Let’s Party with the PepTides” that is happening at the Ottawa Art Gallery in support of Ottawa Salus. The PepTides is a nine-member band with a distinctive larger-than-life pop sound. The five vocalists and four instrumentalists draw on eclectic influences, with elements of funk, soul, gospel, folk, Latin and new wave. In 2017, the band was featured on the cover of Ottawa Life Magazine as “Ottawa’s Best Band.” Most recently, they won Ottawa’s Jim Beam Indies, and we wish them the very best as they advance to the Canadian Independent Music Awards on May 11! Proceeds from this fabulous evening will support Ottawa Salus and the life-changing housing and support services for people living with severe mental illness in our community.

 Where will I be?

I only have one event in my calendar for this week, although I’m sure it will fill in as each day goes on. I’ll be out to the Kanata Theatre to see Nunsense on Wednesday night. I’ve never been to this venue before so I’m excited to check it out and review the show! On Thursday night, I’m a guest on another podcast series called “Nobodies are Somebodies (NAS)” that highlights local Ottawans who have businesses that need to be showcased. I’m pretty excited about it, Podcasts are always a good time!!
