Covert Ottawa Weekly Update! Ottawa Events, Feb 18th – 24th

Wow….what an amazing weekend! There was just so much to enjoy everywhere around the city! I hope you all got out and took in the final weekend of Winterlude and took part in some amazing events such as the Beer Festival at Aberdeen Pavilion or the inaugural year for the Come See and Hear the World Festival. I absolutely love Blakdenim so it was great to see them there!! Next week just picks right up after Winterlude with another great line up of events. One of my favourite signs of summer is happening this weekend with the annual Ottawa Boat Show at the EY Centre. You can just imagine escaping from the snow and heading out on to the not-frozen water in one of the hundreds of watercraft available there!! That’s my dream!!

This Monday is Family Day!!! So happy holiday to everyone who doesn’t work for the Government!!! Hooray! Haha…. There are a few great family friendly options that I suggest to take the kiddies out to see. The Canadian Agriculture and Food Museum has an event running all day, The Canadian Aviation Museum also has an event, or if museums aren’t your thing, you can go and hang out at a family friendly arcade day at House of Targ for a Freeplay, Pizza and Perogy party! You can head to City Hall and spend the day with our mayor, Jim Watson, with an indoor/outdoor activity session on the rink of dreams as well as inside City Hall. Also, the final day of Icecade on Sparts Street is happening Monday so if you haven’t been out to see that yet, now’s the time!! Full details of all these events are on the events calendar.

It’s another slow week for sports in the city. The Sens have two home games, Columbus Blue Jackets are in town on Friday, and the Calgary Flames on Sunday. The Ottawa 67’s host the North Bay Battalion on Family Day Monday.

On the theatre side, Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck continues it’s second week at Ottawa Little Theatre and at Centrepointe, the racy Suzart After Dark production of Cabaret continues on Tuesday for its final week run. At The Gladstone Theatre, you will find week #2 of The Revolutionists. I didn’t get out to see this one, but it looks really great!!

Something I noticed going through this week’s events. It’s a very “colourful” weekend!! Columbus BLUE jackets are in town Friday, the ORANGEman are playing on Friday and Saturday, BLUE Rodeo has two concerts on Saturday and Sunday, the BLUE Man Group are on for four days, and there’s a BLACK history month comedy show with two performances on Saturday. Maybe that’s not that interesting, but I thought it was worth pointing out for no reason in particular.

I’m going to leave it at that for the week. I’ll be honest, it’s a very very busy week, especially the weekend, and there’s really too much to list, you’ll be reading for HOURS (if not days)! Please have a look at the events calendar and you’ll understand. ?

Where will I be?

Although still suffering from my broken leg, (and I think I’ve broken all my toes in the aftermath too…long story) I’m still going out this week! Enough of this hiding from the world crap, and I don’t care what my doctor says. I have things to do!! Wednesday night, you’ll find me at TD Place to catch the Blue Man Group. I saw them many years ago when they came to Ottawa at the NAC and it was so much fun!! I was really excited when I found out that they were coming back. Friday night, I’m planning on staying quite local (for me) and heading to the Rideau Carleton Raceway for the Orangeman concert. This is another blast from the past for me, I used to go and see them often at the Lone Star on St. Laurent when I was younger. I was shocked to see that they’re still around!! I think it was “Orange Crush” that my friend used to have a crush on, but I have no idea if it’s the same members now.
