Weekly Newsletter: Ottawa Events January 21st – 27th

Happy Monday everyone!! I hope you all survived the exciting weather day on Sunday! Just such a fun mix of disgusting cold, lots of wind, and a ton of snow. Happy Ottawa weather!! The great news is that we’ve got a couple more shivery days to start the week, then snow, and then shivery again! UGH!! BUT….enough of the weather update, let’s talk about events!

The long anticipated Harry Potter musical event is finally hear this week with shows Friday and Saturday. You can watch the movie live on the HUGE screen at the Canadian Tire Centre while hearing the score played by the talented NAC orchestra!! There was originally only one show, but due to high early ticket sales, a second show was added!

On the theatre side, Ottawa Little Theatre, is wrapping up their three-week run of Ripcord all week, and from what I’ve heard of it from others, it’s definitely worth going out to see. The Gladstone Theatre is starting up their second and final week of Minding Frankie. This is written by the famous, Maeve Binchy, and adapted for theatre by Shay Linehan. Next on the theatre side, Sock ‘n’ Buskin Theatre is presenting Almost, Maine for the final two nights of their run, this Friday and Saturday at Carleton University.

The Senators have one home game this week before they take a break for the All-Star weekend. The Arizona Coyotes are in town on Tuesday night. Meanwhile, at TD Place, The Ottawa 67’s are playing host to the Oshawa Generals on Saturday and the Saginaw Spirit on Sunday.

This week, you can find the second week in a row of some pretty unique and kinda crazy events. This week features glow in the dark slime making, a Hot-Wing challenge, A drag dinner and cabaret, a boudoir session, and a kilt skate. I’m really excited to promote this month’s Nature Nocturne where you can have a meet and greet with their most beloved guest yet, A SLOTH!!! Yep, you can meet a sloth! I so wish I could go to this one! We went to the November Nature Nocturne and it was amazing!! You can read the review here!

Where will I be?

Monday night, I’m attending a really interesting community involvement meeting where the future of Bluesfest will be discussed. I’m anxious to see if there are any announcements or major updates. If that’s the case, don’t’ you worry, I’ll send out some details! Tuesday night, there’s a “Local Talks” happening at Shopify that I’m really interested in so that will be fun! Friday night is finally(!!) the Faces Awards Gala at the Brookstreet Hotel. I will definitely be there and hope to see a lot of your smiling ‘faces’ in attendance….see what I did there? ? Apparently the evening is almost sold out, so if you are waiting for the last minute, it’s now here!!

I attended “Minding Frankie” last week at The Gladstone Theatre. It runs all week this week, and if you’re thinking of going, you can read the review here! I highly recommend getting out and seeing it!!
