Weekly Newsletter: Ottawa Events December 3rd – 9th

Christmas season is in full swing, and the holiday related events are continuing in full force. Once again this week, I’ve tried to select only the most attended events, as listing every craft sale would be tedious for all of us. It’s a heavy week in sports and theatre around the city, but a great mix of live entertainment and parties too!!

Theatre: At The Gladstone this week, It’s a Wonderful Life, The Radio Show is kicking off for a 9 day run starting Friday night. The Great Canadian Theatre Company (GCTC) is playing Bed and Breakfast  starting Tuesday and running until December 22nd. Elf the Musical has a short run at Meridian Theatres at Centrepointe from the 5th to the 9th. Also this week, The Hockey Sweater: A Musical starts at the NAC from December 5th to the 23rd.

Live Entertainment: A slow week for concerts with only one major one hitting the big venues. George Canyon is playing Monday night at the Algonquin Commons Theatre. On Tuesday, you can find Alec Baldwin live for a one night performance at the NAC. Then on Friday, Barra MacNeils with their East Coast Christmas concert at the Meridian Theatres at Centrepointe. Saturday night has a great concert line up at The Dominion featuring The Riptides and their “Festivus for the Restivus” party!

Sports: It’s a HUGE hockey week in the Capital with The Ottawa Senators  hosting three games. On Thursday night, the rivalry continues with the visiting Montreal Canadiens, Saturday night, the Pittsburgh Penguins are in town, and Sunday is a match up against the battered Boston Bruins. The 67’s also have a busy week at home playing host to the Gatineau Olympique on Saturday and the Peterborough Petes on Sunday.

Seasonal Activities: The major event of the season is the Christmas Originals Craft sale running from Wednesday to Sunday at the EY Centre. I do believe that it’s the biggest craft sale of the season so if you’ve been holding out, now’s the time to get your craft on!! The Magic of Lights continues each night at Wesley Clover Park, which in order to attend, you must buy your tickets in advance. Or, Parliament Hill continues it’s Christmas Lights Across Canada free show each night.

Where will I be??

This week is a busy one for me!! I have a couple networking and entrepreneur courses/meetings to attend Monday and Wednesday night. Thursday night I will be taking in Elf: The Musical (review to follow), Sunday I will once again be attending the Sports Card and Comic Show at the Jim Durrell Centre and I’m planning on hitting up the Mayor’s Christmas Celebration on Saturday at City Hall.

I attended Nature Nocturne for the first time (I know…right??) and I’ve put together a review of the event. If you’re considering going and not sure what to expect, have a look here!
