November is continuing to be a very busy month with such a great variety of events going on throughout the city for all tastes. Here are some of the highlights for the week:
Concerts: After a busy week last week, you’ll find just as many great shows this week too! The week kicks off with Default at the Algonquin Commons Theatre on Monday. On Wednesday, you can find Buffy Sainte-Marie at the Wabano Centre for Aboriginal Health. On Friday, the Eric Eggleston Duo is playing at Stray Dog Brewery. Cody Coyote is at the NAC and Blakdenim is at Barrymores. I saw Blakdenim for the first time at Tweed and they were so good!! Check out my review of the Tweed Shindig here! Saturday features Yukon Blonde and The Zolas at Bronson Centre, and the always entertaining Ambush at Lone Star on St. Laurent. On Sunday you can find the ever-talented Alanna Sterling at Ze Kitchen and the legend Gordon Lightfoot at the NAC. Also live on Sunday, Russell Peters is showing off his hilarity at the CTC.
Live Entertainment: At The Gladstone this week, the latest play, “Sylvia” continues from Tuesday night and concludes on Saturday. At the Kanata Theatre, there’s a new play continuing this week called “It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play”. Next, you can find “For the Pleasure of Seeing Her Again” put on by Linden House Productions. This play has multiple shows, Friday – Sunday this week. The Sock ‘n Buskin Theatre is putting on a performance of Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing” at the Kailash Mital Theatre on the Carleton University Campus. It can be seen Friday – Sunday this week, and then next Thursday and Friday too. Finally, Friday – Sunday this week, and then throughout next week, you can see Orpheus’ latest performance of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at Meridian Theatres @ Centrepointe.
Sports: The Ottawa Senators have two home games this week; The Detroit Red Wings are visiting on Thursday, and Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins are in town Saturday night. The Redblacks have their eastern final playoff game on Sunday at TD Place!! #RNATION Finally, under the sports column, you can see the hockey version of the Panda game with the Ottawa U GeeGees taking on the Carleton Ravens at TD Place on Friday night in the Colonel By Classic.
Seasonal Activities: There are plenty of craft sales starting up, and I’ve got some of the bigger ones listed on the website. The excitement this weekend is that Santa will be very very busy. On Saturday, the Kanata Santa Claus Parade is on at Hazeldean Mall at the same time as the main Ottawa Santa Parade going from City Hall to TD Place!! He’s so magical!!! Then on Sunday, he will be in Barrhaven for the 21st annual parade there. All details can be found on my site! Also, a true sign of the Christmas season, once again, Wesley Clover Parks is hosting the Magic of Lights feature. It begins on Friday night and runs daily from 5-10pm right up until January 5th.
My top three events of the week:
- Comiccon Holiday Edition (Saturday/Sunday, EY Centre)
- Night Lights Art and Light Festival (Saturday/Sunday nights, Preston Street)
- Bonsai Course (Wednesday/Thursday, Ron Kolbus Centre)
Bluesfest has made an early announcement for next summer’s festival!!! Backstreet’s Back ALRIGHT!!! Backstreet Boys will be closing the 2019 edition of Ottawa Bluesfest! Tickets for that night will be going on sale early, this December, and I’m willing to go out on a limb and suggest that they’ll sell out!! So get them early, it would be a great Christmas present.
Events I plan on attending this week: It’s a bit of a slow week for me, but my intention is to attend the Default Concert Monday, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang by Orpheus on Friday, the Franchise Show and Comiccon on Saturday (both at the EY Centre), and The Redblack’s game Sunday.
