Weekly Newsletter: Ottawa Events, August 27th – September 2nd

This week, I hate to say, is our last week of summer holidays. But don’t despair, although it’s a quiet week in Ottawa, September is looking incredible and just loaded with events. I have a lot of announcements this week (see below) so please have a look.

Since we’ve got a long weekend this week, festival season takes a bit of a pause with only one festival running. The Hot Air Balloon festival runs Thursday through Sunday in Gatineau. It’s a great sports week though! The Ottawa Champions play Tuesday – Thursday vs. the Quebec Capitales and then Friday – Sunday vs. the Rockland Boulders. The Redblacks have a game Friday night vs. Montreal and there’s a great soccer game lined up between the Canadian National Women’s team vs. Brazil on Sunday at TD Place.

Just a little shout out to my friends at Dominion City Brewing Company. They, along with many other craft breweries are arguing that $1 beer is not possible without jeopardizing quality. So at Dominion City, instead of $1 beer, they’re donating $1 for each can of their “Buck-a-Beer Blonde Ale” sold, to refugee housing. They’re having a launch party with Délices de Damas (check them out at the farmer’s market, I ate there at the Westboro Farmers market a couple weeks ago and they are AMAZING!!!) providing the food to kick off their sales for this beer. Details on the cause can be found on the event page.

My top three events of the week (Beer theme….yes again. ? ):

  • Buck a Beer Blonde Ale Launch (Dominion City, Thursday)
  • Collective Arts Vegan Brewmaster’s Dinner (CRAFT Beer Market, Tuesday)
  • Beer Yoga (Inner Soul and Cycle, Friday)

Announcements:

  • This will be the last week for the Northern Lights sound of lights show at Parliament Hill. The last day is Monday September 3rd so don’t miss out! Note that once September hits, the show starts at 9pm.
  • I attended the 3rd annual Tweed Shindig event on Saturday and wrote up a review! There were 10 different performances throughout the day. Read the review here.
  • There will be a new Hidden Ottawa post on Tuesday of this week highlighting a must-experience Mexican Restaurant that’s a little off the beaten path. Stay tuned!
  • I have to admit, I’m taking the long weekend off! I’m heading out camping from Friday morning until late Monday evening, so I apologize if my social media posts aren’t up to par. Happy Labour Day Weekend!
  • Just for a little fun…..check out my video taken at the Tweed Shindig of the Wacky Waving Inflatable Arms Flailing tube man.
  • I’m really excited that the all new (not so) Covert Cruiser is now on the streets!! Feel free to say hi and be friendly when you see me! I’ve already had the “not so Covert” conversation with several people while driving by them. 🙂 #dadjokes
