Trio Bistro and Lounge

Another Hidden Ottawa gem has been unearthed! While I have known about Trio for a while, after visiting them again recently, I knew that they would make the perfect feature for this section of the website!

Trio Bistro and Lounge is a unique little restaurant and lounge in Westboro. There are many elements that create the perfect atmosphere at Trio, most notably the incredible artwork on the walls, the candles lit on each table, the bench style seating available (with pillows!), and the soft music playing in the background. The environment is truly warm and inviting. Open 7 days a week from 4:30 pm to 2 am, Trio offers a great little escape where you can enjoy delicious drinks and food in a really cool space.

The service at Trio is second to none. My server, Dan, on this last visit was so kind, and really took the time to explain the menu, the drinks, and anything else that I had questions about. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the different flavours and was able to make recommendations to us based on our tastes. Despite having a full restaurant, he managed to take orders, serve, make drinks, and help in the kitchen, all the while delivering exceptional customer service.

Trio makes their food and cocktails from scratch! Their menu is incredible! I always start with a cheese board when I go to Trio, and it never disappoints! My most recent visit featured a board with three delicious cheeses: Applewood smoked cheddar, Le Pleine Lune and Le Brebiou, along with candied nuts, a fruit compote, and a large bowl filled with a variety of gluten free crackers (I requested GF, and they were happy to accommodate!) One of the things that I love about their menu is that they allow you to choose from a variety of cheeses and meats to customize your own board, which means that you get to experience what you really want! But if you are feeling adventurous, you can always select their Adventure Board, which gives you the Chef’s choice!

Speaking of the chef, I have to commend the Trio chef, Pi. On this particular visit, I tried both the Pistou pizza (goat cheese, mozzarella, Parmesan, blue cheese and apples topped with organic honey) and the Spicy Peanut pizza (grilled chicken, mushrooms, caramelized onions, goat cheese and cilantro). Both were absolutely incredible; the flavor combinations on each were perfect. The crusts were very thin, which made each a light meal rather than a heavy one. They paired perfectly with the craft beer that I selected! You won’t find mainstream beer at Trio, they have four taps dedicated to craft beer selections, generally local.

Located at 307 Richmond Rd, Trio is tucked away just enough to make it one of Ottawa’s best little secrets! Give it a try, you will NOT be disappointed. A truly great establishment!
